Rock N Ride November 2007 Edition by Liz Hyde

Friday night, September 27th. The lights are dimmed, the club is quiet and the stage is dark. Suddenly, the stage comes alive, with one of the most driving and energetic alternative/classic rock bands in the entire state of Texas, Cloud Nine. The Abbey Pub in Katy has never seen the likes of a band quite like this one. The lead singer, Ronnie, is off of the stage and intermingling with the crowd as his powerful vocals just flow.

Bass player, Dean, adds to the mix of rhythm and vocal harmony, and the other Ronnie, is one of the best drummers that I have seen. Then, we get to the lead guitarist, Donnie, who happens to be lead singer Ronnie’s twin brother. Ted Nugent, eat your heart out, Donnie can play every bit as good as you and he can sing too! Sound and light engineer, William, pulls it all together to keep everything in sync. Cloud Nine brings their distinct sound to a new level with any alternative song they do and are every bit as good as the original artists. By the time Ronnie breaks into Sammy Hagar’s Mas Tequila the crowd is on their feet and the party has started. But let’s not stop here, what about Lynard Skynard’s Saturday Night Special?

This is southern rock tune that’s played with a style and drive unmatched by others. Ronnie Van Zandt would be proud! Clearly this is the best version of this song that I have ever heard. They have recently played the last two events at Republic Harley Davidson, and were invited by several other clubs to come and play after their performance there. When Cloud Nine is in town to play, it is an entertaining night of excellent alternative, classic and southern rock played by the finest. Watch for more surprises in the future bookings of this band at local area clubs and bars. Their next performance in the area is Saturday, Oct. 6th, 9:30am-1:30pm. at The End Zone, 15209 Westheimer Road, Houston, 77082. Go to their website for more on Cloud Nine www.cloudninebands.com such as song lists and schedules. I hope to see you there!
