Galveston Bike Week

The Lone Star Rally

by Larry

September 2003 some 85,000 motorcycles and 150,000 people enjoyed the first annual Lone Star Rally in Galveston.

The success of the event surprised everyone involved as the bikers rolled and rumbled into town, spent a lot of money, behaved and totally impressed the citizens of the Island. Every hotel room, every camping spot, every RV hookup, every B & B and just about every beach house was rented. The restaurants, bars, stores and other businesses benefited either directly or indirectly from the economic effect of millions of dollars being added to the Island economy. They were especially grateful because 2003 had been a year in which most of the major holidays had suffered from bad weather.

Now they know. They know to keep the restaurants open later. They know that they need more staff to handle the crowds. They know it is safe, and fun, to attend the events themselves and to mingle with the bikers. They know it is good for the Island.

Bikers learned a lot too. They learned that Galveston is a great destination – not only during the Rally but to visit anytime of the year. They learned Galveston is a great place to bring the entire family for a fun-filled time.

Many bikers are business owners, Physicians, Lawyers and corporate executives. They learned that Galveston is an ideal place to hold a corporate conference or company retreat. With some 5,000 hotel rooms, two state-of-the-art convention centers, an airport capable of landing private jet craft, multiple cruise lines, docking facilities for yachts and enough exceptional restaurants to keep anyone happy for a long time Galveston can, and will, accommodate the needs of any company or group looking for meeting facilities.

Galveston is a great place to visit anytime of the year, but if you own a bike (or just want one real bad) the Lone Star Rally is a must!
